(Re: Ricky Leong — Who’s pulling the strings in Alberta separation push? Calgary Sun, Tuesday, May 20, 2025) I read with interest Ricky Leong’s column in the comment section. He noted that people who voted in 2023 may not have voted UCP if they thought that it would bring about a vote on independence. While he brings up some very good points regarding this matter, it seems to me that he’s joined the fear factor group, claiming that while enabling something is not the same as doing it yourself. His article seems intent on blaming the UCP for separation, but forgets to mention that a referendum is simply that. I don’t believe that a referendum on independence would pass in this province, so perhaps the best solution is to let it happen and then put it to rest. The nice thing about living in Canada is that Mr. Leong has as much right to his expression as I do mine.

(Still doesn’t mean a referendum, or separation, is a good idea.)
What crisis?
Carney told us over and over and over again that Canada is in a crisis. The worst crisis in decades. Trump is trying to break Canada so he can take us over. Very important stuff. So he tells us that his government will stop Trump , save Canada , and solve this crisis, maybe sometime in the fall, or later in the year, and after his government takes a good, long, relaxing summer vacation. I guess a crisis means different things to people.

Bring on pipelines!
With the latest happening with Mr. Trump’s visit to the Middle East I won’t be surprised if he will make a deal to export oil from OPEC. He is trying very hard to take control of Canada. What a better way to do so than cut his dependence on Alberta oil? We need to get pipelines built to ensure we have new markets.

(Diversifying certainly would help. We’re skeptical the Liberals are on board with pipelines, though)
Bunch o’ turkeys
How can anyone look back on the last 10 years of Liberal disaster and say, ‘Awesome, great, let’s get more of that.” This is equivalent of turkeys voting to keep the Christmas dinner tradition alive.
