Letters to the editor, April 27, 2025: ‘Who let the Bloc in?’

Article content

The Green Party was not permitted to participate in either the French or English debates. Apparently they did not fulfil the requirement of having candidates in a percentage of ridings across Canada. Why is the Bloc Quebecois participating? A Quebec provincial political party “acting” as a federal party. The criteria for attending the debate is that the party must satisfy two of the following criteria: 1) representative in the House of Commons, the Bloc has 33; (2) national support of at least 4%; (3) candidates in at least 90% of federal ridings. From the Canadian dirt I stand on, the Bloc only satisfies one of the criteria, that being the first one listed above.

Thanks for TMX

The federal Liberal government of Justin Trudeau’s investment in the TMX pipeline has turned out to be a financial boon for Alberta. The pipeline has cost an estimated $50 billion paid for by Canadian taxpayers, 90% who do not live in Alberta. The pipeline capacity tripled and the fees collected will never be paid for by the tolls charged to move the Alberta oil to tidewater. Instead, Canadian taxpayers, residents in the other nine provinces will pony up. Thanks, Canada, from an Albertan.

Vote wisely

Mark Carney has managed to convince many Canadians the most urgent of Canada’s problems is President Trump and his tariff threats. Canadians have real immediate concerns such as unaffordability, high inflation, a large national debt with interest payments that cost the treasury more than the amount that is distributed to the provinces in the form of health-care transfers, and the collapse of the public health-care system. If Trudeau had allowed us to develop our resources, we would be in a much better position to weather Trump’s tariffs. If you want more of Liberal mismanagement, then certainly, vote for Mark Carney. If you really want change, the Conservatives offer us our best hope. Use your vote wisely.

Like crime? Vote Liberal

Jewelry stores being robbed in the middle of the day with hammers in shopping malls full of children. Cars being stolen off driveways or even carjacked.Homes being invaded. People shot on streets by stray bullets. And if criminals are caught, they are out on bail the next day! Emergency rooms are overcrowded and people are dying as necessary medical care is not provided. Only advantage Canada has is abundant natural resources that the rest of the world dearly needs but are kept in the ground. Out-of-control immigration created tent cities and overcrowded homes. So, if you voters are happy with this and prepared to make it even worse, vote Liberal. I do not understand why even one person would.

(It’s shocking after all of the failed Liberal policies for the last decade, they may yet get another term.)
