Sounds like the premier will be going along with Carney’s offer called decarbonization. Factories required to further refine our clean oil will take years to build, will increase sales prices and lead to production cuts. This is Carney’s mandate to control the amount of extraction, increase production costs, reduce investment and cut back on finances going back to Alberta and Canadians. This is how he will deal with the other changes (Danielle) Smith has wanted. This is not good.

Army cadets

Prime Minister Mark Carney is proposing big, bold ideas for Canada. Our youth are experiencing a lack of summer jobs and full-time employment. Here is a bold idea: Paid army cadets for all males and females after Grade 11 during July and August. Physical fitness, hiking, canoeing, survival skills, and money in the bank. Can’t beat it. And after Grade 12, how about one year of paid basic training. A win-win for Canada and its youth. And a big step in the right direction.

Panthers no better

Re: Edmonton Oilers are not Canada’s team (Letters, June 7). No, not everyone cheers for the Oilers. But if you read the media rags, there are at least five Maple Leafs stories every day. Not everyone is a Leafs fan. Unfortunately the Leafs came up against your team that physically beat them out of the playoffs. Oilers are 10th and Panthers are second in penalties. Panthers are one of the worst teams in the league for trying to injure other players. Why do you think they picked up Brad Marchand? Just ask the Toronto goalie and no penalty called. And yes, (Darnell) Nurse was guilty of slashing but after a while you get sick of the interference, the cross-checking and the holding without calls. If you wear glasses, you should clean them and you may want to record a game and watch how (Connor) McDavid gets manhandled. (Sidney) Crosby has been treated the same way. (Wayne) Gretzky was the scoring leader because (Marty) McSorley protected him. (NHL Commissioner Gary) Bettman and his officials make sure that doesn’t happen today.
